PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the cycle time in cutting work of a workpiece in a workpiece supporting apparatus.SOLUTION: The workpiece supporting apparatus 8 supports a planar workpiece W to be cut according to a machining trajectory by the irradiation with a laser beam, with a plurality of supporting members 11 in the machining position. In order to perform this support, the apparatus holds each supporting member 11 at a first holding position for supporting the workpiece W or a second holding position away by a prescribed distance from the first holding position and moves periodically to the machining position. At that time, whenever moving to the machining position, the apparatus switches the holding position of the supporting member 11 before the supporting member arrives at the machining position between the first holding position and the second holding position in accordance with the machining trajectory. |
