PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an LED device which improves luminous efficacy.SOLUTION: The LED device comprises a stack of layers (2) comprising a light emitting layer (3) not being the top or bottom layer of the stack of layers. The method for producing the LED device includes a surface roughening step which roughens the top or bottom layer of the stack of layers in order to improve luminous efficacy of the LED. The surface roughening step includes producing on the top or bottom surface a plurality of surface features (10). The surface features are arranged by starting from a regular pattern of features and subjecting each feature of the regular pattern to a deviation from the location in the regular pattern, the deviation being in a random direction and/or having a random amplitude. According to another embodiment, a random deviation is applied to one or more dimensions of the features in the regular pattern. |
