PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an LED backlight device that can control local dimming in high precision and a liquid crystal display device, and can improve display quality by using the LED backlight device, as for the direct-downward LED backlight device with a plurality of LED light sources arranged and the liquid crystal display device having the backlight device.SOLUTION: The LED backlight device BL (BL1-BL4) includes main LED light sources 1A which are arranged a plurality of pieces planely for each prescribed pitch on a mounting substrate 5 and are always controlled for light emission, and sub-LED light sources 1B which are arranged in the prescribed parts between the main LED light sources and are not used always, but used only at the prescribed time by controlling light emission. The liquid crystal display device 10 includes this LED backlight device BL (BL1-BL4). |
