PURPOSE: An optical pickup and an optical information storage medium system are provided to lower a height of an optical pickup by making a width of a first direction corresponding to a height direction of an optical pickup of an incident light beam through an objective lens smaller than a width of a crossed second direction by limiting a range of a light beam. CONSTITUTION: An optical unit comprises at least one light source and at least one optical detector. An object lens focuses a light beam incoming from the optical unit on an optical information storage medium. An opening (50) limits a range of the light beam in order to make a width of a first direction corresponding to a height direction of an optical pickup of the incident light beam smaller than a width of a crossed second direction. A rate of a width of the first direction and a width of the second direction is more than 80%.
