PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide "a map display device and a map display method" capable of promptly displaying a map improved in visibility of icons in which the presence or absence of display is affected by a setting state of a guidance route.SOLUTION: Map information includes road discrimination information for roads to be an entrance lane/an exit lane when a driver travels according to a route using spots shown by dynamic display icons as a guide object in association with specific characters and icons where the dynamic display icons and display areas are overlapped with each other. The map display device comprises: extracting means 25 for extracting the specific character and the icon from characters and icons on the basis of the presence or absence of the road discrimination information when displaying the dynamic display icon; determination means 26 for determining whether the road discrimination information associated with the extraction result matches the road discrimination information of the route; and map display control means 27 for prohibiting display of the specific character and icon determined to be matched with the road discrimination information. |
