PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video system and a method for controlling the same for improving voice recognition performance by reducing volume of sound to be output from the video system to a fixed standard when voice of a user is recognized by the video system.SOLUTION: A video system by which voice recognition is possible includes: a first voice input part 112 which receives input of a user side acoustic signal; an acoustic output part 122 which outputs an acoustic signal to be processed by the video system; a first voice recognition part 210 which analyzes the user side acoustic signal input in the first voice input part; and a first control part 220 which reduces volume of the sound to be output through the acoustic output part to a preset level when a voice recognition start instruction is input.
