The method involves recording an encrypted file i.e. digital art work, in an electronic form on a medium (8), and recording a private key to decrypt the file in another medium (10). An file identifier (16) and a key identifier (22) are recorded in relation to each other on a third medium (13) that is arranged independent of the medium utilized for recording the encrypted file, and independent of the medium utilized for recording the private key. A connector is utilized for diffusion of the encrypted file. The identifier is recorded by a telecommunication network (14). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for checking authenticity of a digital file (2) a protection assembly.
