The method involves analyzing characteristics i.e. aeraulic characteristics, of a thermal engine or operation data i.e. physical operation parameters, of the engine (6) at the time of cutoff request of the thermal engine to determine (8) a risk of flooding of spark plugs. An electric machine is controlled to drive the thermal engine in an event of the risk, so that rotation of the thermal engine is continued with curve speed, which depends on the analyzed characteristics of the thermal engine or the analyzed operation data of the engine. An independent claim is also included for a car.
