An apparatus and a method for controlling electric discharge of an air conditioner are provided to prevent damage of a DC link end by discharging voltage charged in the DC link end without using special device. A control unit of an air conditioner restarts a compressor to discharge voltage which is charged in a DC link end after stopping the compressor. The control unit restarts the compressor by driving inverters(400,500) by PWM(Pulse Width Modulation). The compressor is restarted by charged voltage of the DC link end. The air conditioner generates cold air by using the compressor and a fan. The compressor is driven by three-phase AC voltage. The control unit discharge voltage charged in the DC link end by restarting the compressor or the fan after stopping the compressor or the fan. |
