A signal processing system for generating an ultrasonic signal from an audio signal comprises a compressor (1 10), operable to compress the audio signal, and an equalization circuit (1 12), operable to equalize the audio signal. A modulation circuit (1 14) is operable to combine the audio signal with a carrier signal to produce at least one modulated carrier signal. A voltage detection and control circuit (132) is operable to: detect a voltage of the modulated carrier signal; compare the detected voltage of the modulated carrier signal to a desired voltage; and cause the voltage of the modulated carrier signal to be adjusted if the compared voltage differs by a predetermined amount from the desired voltage.
