The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a map display device for making it possible to easily comprehend the relationship between drawing objects on a plurality of map-drawing screens, and improve operability for a user; and a method therefor. This map display device, in which the size of a second drawing screen or the size of a second drawing object displayed on the second drawing screen is smaller than that of a first drawing screen, is provided with: a priority-drawing-object storage unit (4) for storing a priority drawing object included in a first drawing object and designated by an operation input by a user; and a control unit (4) for, according to a user operation input, controlling the state of overlap between the first and second drawing screens, causing the first drawing object or the second drawing object to mask the other in the overlapping section of the first and second drawing screens, and outputting to a display unit (1). The map display device is characterized in that when controlling the state of overlap, the control unit (4) controls in a manner such that the priority drawing object on the first drawing screen remains in view in the drawing-screen display. |
