The calibrating method involves setting a computer generated hologram (CGH) (3), which defines an adjusted portion of the intensity of the light coming from a Fizeau-interferometer (1) as calibrating light in a value different from null, where the CGH concerning the Fizeau-interferometer and a testing optical surface (21) are adjusted. A plane wave is emitted from the Fizeau-interferometer towards a reference mirror (4), where the plane wave traverses the CGH twice. An independent claim is included for an arrangement for calibrating wave front error of a computer generated hologram for examination of an optical surface.
