PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control distribution of the amount of moisture of a recording medium to which treatment liquid is evenly applied to smooth the distribution of the amount of moisture after the application of ink and to suppress the deformation of paper.SOLUTION: An image recording apparatus includes: a treatment liquid application means for evenly applying the treatment liquid containing a flocculant that flocculates components in an ink to at least a recording area of the recording medium; a pre-drying means for pre-drying the recording medium to which the treatment liquid is applied, and distributing the amount of moisture of the treatment liquid in the recording area; an image recording means for recording an image by applying the ink to the recording area of the recording medium which has been pre-dried; an ink distribution calculation means for calculating the distribution of the amount of moisture of the applied ink; a treatment liquid distribution calculation means for calculating the distribution of the amount of moisture of the treatment liquid for smoothing the distribution of the amount of moisture in the recording area after the application of the ink; and a control means that controls the pre-drying means, and regards the distribution of the amount of moisture of the treatment solution as the distribution calculated by the treatment liquid distribution calculation means.
