The invention relates to a wheel hub drive system comprising an electric motor that can be arranged within a wheel rim and is formed by a rotor at least indirectly connected to a wheel hub and a stationary stator to which alternating current can be applied. In order to provide more room to the vehicle occupants, the converter including the entire power electronics thereof is arranged on the stator such that the wheel hub drive system can be operated using direct current from the vehicle battery and no AC cables have to be laid in the vehicle. The alternating current is thus generated by the converter, which is arranged in a converter housing mounted axially next to the stator.
