The device (100) has a holder for holding a bimetallic strip (10). The holder is provided with a deformable leg portion, a fixed leg portion and a plate. A base point of the bimetallic strip is fixed to the deformable leg portion. The fixed leg portion is provided with an actuating unit for moving the plate in the direction of the deformable leg portion. The tip of the bimetallic strip is tilted together with the bimetallic strip, during contact of the plate and the deformable leg portion. An independent claim is included for a thermal-magnetic trip device.
