PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a glass substrate for magnetic disks, capable of reducing a surface unevenness including defects of the glass substrate easily causing occurrence of a film omission, etc. of a magnetic disk, and to provide the glass substrate for magnetic disks.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a glass substrate for magnetic disks comprises the steps of: supplying a polishing liquid to a glass blank, circulating the liquid through a circulation path under an acid condition to polish a main surface of the glass blank using a polishing pad; and sending an alkali solution to the circulation path instead of the polishing liquid after the polishing and before polishing a main surface of another glass blank using the polishing pad and the polishing liquid. The glass substrate for magnetic disks has at least a magnetic layer formed on the main surface of the glass substrate for magnetic disks manufactured by the manufacturing method. |
