Device for induction hardening of a toothed rack (8), comprises a first surface (13), which faces the toothed rack during hardening, for hardening a second surface (14). The first surface is adapted to the second surface such that an uniform hardening zone (7) is formed in the toothed rack. An independent claim is also included for state-hardening the toothed rack, using the above device.
