The device has two metallic power supply units provided with p-type semiconductor portion (3) and n-type semiconductor portion (2) which are arranged in planar contact with each other. Movable charge carriers are accumulated in p-type semiconductor portion. An electride portion of n-type semiconductor portion is provided with a non-conductive, insulating depletion region (2a) which is free of mobile charge carriers. The charge breakthrough and charge balance between semiconductor portions are prevented due to material properties of the electride portion.
