METHOD FOR PRODUCING ACRYLIC ACID AND POLYMER THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably producing acrylic acid free of irritative impurities over a long period in the case of producing acrylic acid by using a composition raw material containing 3-hydroxypropionic acid of biomass origin by reducing the amount of a nitrogen-containing compound contained in the raw material to reduce the amount of produced by-products and a method for producing water-absorbing resin excellent in performance and safety by using acrylic acid containing few impurities as a raw material.SOLUTION: The method for producing acrylic acid from a composition containing at least one among 3-hydroxypropionic acid, poly-3-hydroxypropionic acid and salts of them includes steps of: (a) preparing a composition in which the total amount of nitrogen in a nitrogen-containing compound contained in the composition is equal to or less than 0.2 mass% with respect to the total amount of 3-hydroxypropionic acid, poly-3-hydroxypropionic acid and salts of them; and (b) heating the composition obtained by the process (a) to obtain acrylic acid.
