OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

This optical waveguide is formed by laminating, on a substrate in order, a lower cladding layer, a core layer and an upper cladding layer, a mirror being formed on the core layer. The substrate has an opening, and the maximal diameter of the opening is greater than the maximal diameter of the light beams reflected by the mirror, the maximal diameter of the opening being less than or equal to 240mum. This optical waveguide can transmit optical signals regardless of the type of substrate, and suppresses widening of optical signals reflected from the mirror unit, enabling signal transmission with low loss.
