PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sustained release delivery formulation of a risperidone compound.SOLUTION: There is provided a risperidone sustained release delivery system for treatment of medical conditions related to delusional insanity, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, psychotic depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, Tourette's syndrome, and autistic spectrum disorder. This sustained release delivery system includes a flowable composition that contains risperidone and its metabolite or prodrug, and an implant that contains risperidone and its metabolite or prodrug. The flowable composition can be injected into the tissues to clump together into a solid or gelled monolithic implant. The flowable composition includes a biodegradable thermoplastic polymer, an organic liquid, risperidone and its metabolite or prodrug. |
