PURPOSE: A photographing position auto tracking method for a video surveillance device is provided to swiftly monitor the situation and location of an accident by controlling PTZ (Pan, tilt, and zoom functions) of the video surveillance device regarding the GPS coordinates of the accident location. CONSTITUTION: A group of standard GPS coordinates and pixel coordinates (X-Y axis) of a reference video are generated. A group of pixel coordinates of video information indicating the location of an accident are measured and extracted. By matching the video information's measured pixel coordinates with the standard pixel coordinates, measured GPS coordinates of the measured pixel coordinates are calculated, which are the counterparts of the standard pixel coordinates' standard GPS coordinates. A relative location between the measured GPS coordinates and a video surveillance device which has a set of previously-assigned GPS coordinates is calculated by using the measured GPS coordinates and the GPS coordinates of the video surveillance device's location. Regarding the relative location of the calculated GPS coordinates, PTZ (Pan, tilt, and zoom functions) of the video surveillance device are selectively auto-controlled to expand and display a video in details showing the situation at the location of the accident.
