PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for generating mist containing functional components, which are capable of discharge a large amount of the functional components together with the mist of a nano size and improve the internal environment of a refrigerator and an indoor environment. SOLUTION: The apparatus 1 for generating the mist containing the functional components is provided with: a porous formed body 2 composed of a water-absorbing and water-retentive porous water retention base material 11 and a porous discharge base material 12 projecting on the water retention base material 11; a water supply means 3 for supplying an aqueous solution containing nonvolatile functional components to the water retention base material 11; and a DC high voltage power source 4 whose negative pole is connected to the porous formed body 2 to negatively electrify the porous formed body 2 holding the aqueous solution containing the nonvolatile functional components.
