The injection cylinder 10 contains a sleeve 40 having a central passage 50, and ducts 75 in the wall of the sleeve lead to channels 70 formed between the sleeve and the interior of the cylinder. Plastic material fed into the passage 5U from the right by a plunger, Fig. 1 (not shown), is forced through the ducts into the channels 70 and so into contact with the hot cylinder. The channels are in pairs, the two channels of each pair converging to form one channel at a point (e.g. 71) spaced from the discharge end of the sleeve. The sleeve converges towards the nozzle N, and has inwardly-projecting ribs 60. The ribs may be omitted. The sleeve may be formed with steps interiorly, Fig. 6 (not shown), or may be plain, Fig. 7 (not shown).
