A nutcracker comprises two unconnected parts, an upper part 1 and a lower part 2 which are so dimensioned that part 3 fits inside part 4 forming a hinge. The upper and lower parts may be shaped such that one part may be stored attached to the other. The lower part may be formed such that it will allow the upper part to disengage for the lower part when the two parts are closed with no nut between them.
