Provided is a dye ink set for ink jet recording, which has a wide color gamut, particularly for the hue range of magenta, blue, and cyan, and which has good ejection stability properties. The ink set is characterized by comprising ink compositions of two colors, a) a magenta ink composition and b) a cyan ink composition which contain a dye, water, and a water-soluble organic solvent, and the ink set is characterized in that a) the magenta ink composition contains a compound represented by formula (1) or a salt thereof.
