The powerplant has a determination unit (10) determining three distinct use envelopes applied during a takeoff flight phase, a cruising flight phase and a landing flight phase, respectively. The determination unit communicates with a control unit (5) to indicate its use to the envelopes during flight. A memory (6) comprises a set of instructions for the control unit to apply the use envelopes corresponding to a current flight phase so as to control an engine (3). The memory contains information to make function the engine according to the envelopes. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an aircraft.
