PURPOSE: A home screen editing apparatus of a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to edit a live box displayed in a home screen of a portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A display unit displays at least one home screen. The home screen displays at least one live box displaying content information of an application. A control unit generates live boxes in an empty area of the home screen through a first gesture generated in the home screen. The control unit displays the content information of the application selected in generated live boxes. The first gesture includes a touch generated over predetermined time.
