629,173. Roasting-furnaces. SIMPSON, H. S. Oct. 9, 1946, No. 30134. Convention date, May 2. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Groups II and XXII] Spent foundry sand or other granular material is first treated in a wet scrubber C to remove clay &c. and then in a furnace E to remove organic binders, such as oil cereal or other combustible material. The washed sand falls into the hopper of a machine E for drying it and burning away combustible material as described in Specification 629,172. When sufficiently roasted the sand is discharged through a door operated by a handle 75 into a shoot 76, which delivers it to a bucket conveyer F, Fig. 3, which has water sprays 82 and a suction pipe 85 to cool the sand and remove dust. The conveyer F delivers the sand to a machine G similar to the scrubber C except that it is not supplied with water. All the dust extracting pipes lead to a settling chamber from the top of which air is extracted by a pump.
