PURPOSE: A method for displaying an electronic map of a client and a device thereof are provided to enlarge/display the map image of a specific part in the electronic map and obtain the detail information for the map image from a server, thereby providing a fast map search. CONSTITUTION: A geographic information system (GIS) based application system (111) determines a part to be enlarged and displayed on an electronic map and enlarges/displays the map image of the part. The GIS based application system obtains the detail information for the map image from a server (120) and displays the detail information on the map image. The GIS based application system determines a range which is set based on points and changes the part to be enlarged and displayed on the electronic map according to the movement of the points. The GIS based application system enlarges and displays the map image of the part according to the change of an enlargement ratio.
