Machinery frames, for machine tools, for example, are constructed of sheet metal pillars 1 spaced apart by thin distance tubes 2a which are secured to the pillars 1 by means of bolts 4 attached to their ends. The bolts 4 may be hooked to engage in openings in the tubes 2a or they may be otherwise secured as by welding or riveting. The tubes 2a may be of plain sheet metal with or without channel-shaped stiffeners, into which the ends of the bolts are secured, or they may be of corrugated sheet metal with a single or double wall. Distance tubes of different diameters may be employed for the same machine frame so that they may be fitted one into another for transport purposes before final assembly. |
