The drive (23) has a belt (20) provided around a drive pulley (18) and an output pulley (14). The drive pulley is attached at a drive shaft (16) i.e. motor shaft. The output pulley is attached at an output shaft (12). An axial distance (d) between the drive shaft and the output shaft is varied. A belt-tensioning device (22) includes an inner tensioning roller (28) and an outer tensioning roller (30). The rollers are guided between empty-branches (20a) of the belt. The rollers are combinedly adjusted for tensioning the belt in the different axial distances of the drive and output shafts. An independent claim is also included for a portable machine.
