PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long-service life secondary battery suitable for being used in hybrid vehicles that repeat rapid charge/discharge in a partial state of charge (PSOC), or for industrial usage such as windmill generation and photovoltaic generation.SOLUTION: Disclosed is a secondary battery comprising: a positive electrode; a negative electrode; a separator; and electrolyte. A carbon material such as active charcoal having capacitor capacitance and/or pseudo capacitor capacitance is mixed to and contained in an active material of the negative electrode. The battery service-life can be further improved by using the carbon material, such as the active charcoal having capacitor capacitance and/or pseudo capacitor capacitance, whose plane spacing ratio of a 002 plane to a 10 plane is 1.89 or less and/or whose plane spacing ratio of a 002 plane to a 11 plane is 3.26 or less as measured by X-ray diffraction. |
