The assistance apparatus has sensor arrangements (14,16) for detecting the surroundings of the motor vehicle (2), and a communication device (20) for enabling communication between vehicles (2,6,8,10). A control assembly (18) is coupled to the sensor arrangements and the communication device for evaluating the sensor information regarding the surroundings of motor vehicle to transmit the signal for to-be-parked motor vehicle (2) by communication device. An independent claim is included for a method for assisting parking of motor vehicle.
