The method involves detecting a traveling direction of an object or person (2) at a location by two spaced-apart sensors (A, B) as an event. The event is stored with the location and event time. The stored event is assigned to time intervals and the location. A probability of a farther movement of the object from the stored event is determined in each time interval and at each location. Electrically activatable apparatuses are actuated based on the determined high probability. A velocity amount is detected in addition to the traveling direction of the object between the sensors. The spaced-apart sensors are designed as presence- or motion sensors. An independent claim is also included for a movement detecting system.
