PURPOSE: A composition containing alpha-pinene as an active ingredient for preventing and treating acute pancreatitis is provided to suppress progression of acute pancreatitis and to treat a damaged tissue. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating acute pancreatitis contains alpha-pinene as an active ingredient. The composition reduces the PW (Pancreas Weight)/BW (Body Weight) ratio, activities of serum amylase and lipase, damage of pancreas and lung, MPO activity of pancreas and lung, and inflammatory cytokine activity. The daily dose of the active ingredient is 0.0001-50 mg/kg. A health functional food for preventing and treating acute pancreatitis contains alpha-pinene as an active ingredient.
