<p>The present invention is directed to an automated evaluation and sorting system for agricultural products where a decision matrix compares a specific characteristic of an interior layer of an individual agricultural product to a threshold value of the specific characteristic to determine acceptability of the individual agricultural products. The apparatus includes a receiving section, a conveyance and evaluation section, which includes data collection and processing, and a sorting section. The conveyance and evaluation section of the apparatus includes an intrusion device to expose the interior of the individual agricultural product allowing a sensor device to capture a measurement of the interior to be analyzed for acceptance of the individual agricultural product. The present invention is also directed to an automated evaluation and sorting method utilizing the interior of the agricultural product to sort individual agricultural products into one or more categories, such as rejection or acceptance of the agricultural products.</p> |
