The display device has a pointer and a dial (1) which has scale bars (2a,2c,2k) in an angle area (alpha), where the pointer is rotatable around a rotational axis. The operating states of a motor vehicle are represented by the pointer. An additional scale bar (2l,2o) is represented in another angle area (beta) that is adjacent to the former angle area. The additional scale bar is represented by a lighting element. The dial is partially radiolucent and has a light-transmitting coating. The lighting element has a light filter and a colored light source.
