Class 20(2) [Also in Groups XXII and XXVIII] Structures such as pylons are built up from tubes 80, Fig. 22, which are spindle like i.e. tapering towards both ends and formed from two conical tubes folded from flat, thin, hard, sheet metal, the longitudinal and annular seams being joined by deforming and interlocking cut out tongues 24, Fig. 7, members 73, 75, Fig. 16, reinforcing the annular seams and tube ends and providing connections to other tubes of the structure. Numerous methods of forming and joining the tubes are descibed. A strut end 123, Fig. 35, has an internal reinforcing member 124. |
