<p>PURPOSE: A contact type text recognition device of a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to use the touch and arrangement when producing a text and a sentence to an object on a touch screen, thereby storing the text and the sentence in an internal storage and transmitting the text message after recognizing the contents. CONSTITUTION: A touch recognition unit (14) recognizes the touch value which is touched on a touch screen of a portable terminal. A text converting unit (18) converts the touch value, which is recognized in the touch recognition unit, into a text value. A display unit (20) prints out the text which is transformed in the text converting unit. A transmission unit (22) transmits a text message transmission command to the text which is outputted from the display unit, and transmits the value which is converted into text. If a numeric button which enables to input a numeric value is touched on the display unit, the text converting unit converts the touched numeric value and the recognized touch value into the text value.
