PURPOSE: An image processing apparatus and method are provided to perform a low-level blurring on an edge of an input image and to perform a relatively high-level blurring on non-edge parts of the input image. CONSTITUTION: An image processing apparatus comprises a calculation unit (110), a determination unit (120), and a processing unit (130). The calculation unit calculates an edge level of a first pixel to be processed by filtering. The determination unit determines an adaptive filtering parameter to determine a degree of filtering according to the edge level.
