Class 86 [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVII] A food comminuting and mixing machine has its vessel 6 mounted on base 5 housing a series-wound motor 7 whereby an agitator 8 is driven. The mixing vessel consists of a glass jar with a readily removable closure as described in Specification 790,872. An agitator shaft 11 is journalled in a screw-threaded bottom cover 10 and has a slot to provide a splined connection with the motor shaft 13 by means of stud 14 which projects upwardly from a coupling 15 on the motor shaft, the stud being adapted for limited swivelling movement in any direction. A disc 18 prevents liquid from entering the motor housing. The tapered cover 10 of the mixing vessel is received in collar 21 which has a rounded pin 23 co-operating with one of a number of axial lands along the side of the cover, Fig. 4 (not shown). A circumferential slot between bodies 19, 20, allows cooling air to be drawn in by means of fan 27. Telescoping bosses in the upper and lower body members secure these members together, and the motor frame has a mounting flange with several holes therein, each of which contains a grommet of resilient material. Mounting screws extend through compression washers into the bosses in the upper body to hold the motor and the housing members assembled with one another. The motor speed control arrangement comprises a rotatable dial 34, a cam 35 driven by the dial, a main toggle switch 36, and a doublethrow toggle switch 37. A centrifugal switch 38 is adjusted by link 39 (see Group XXXVII) and the motor housing also contains arc-quenching capacitors 66 and resistor 67.</p> |
