In-vitro diagnosis and/or risk classification of heart diseases and/or diseases of the lung and respiratory tract, comprises carrying out a determination of the free fragments N-terminal pro-endothelin-1 (NT-proET-1) (18-52) or their fragments and partial peptides, in a patient to be examined. Independent claims are included for: (1) a kit for the diagnosis and/or risk classification of heart diseases and/or diseases of the lung and respiratory tract, comprising verification reagents for the determination of the free fragments NT-proET-1 or their fragments and partial peptides, and optionally further markers and auxiliary materials; and (2) a diagnostic device for performing the method.
