A freewheel clutch device particularly applicable to clock mechanism comprises a driving- wheel 1, a driven ratchet wheel 5 secured for rotation with a spindle 3 and gear 6, and pawls 9, 10 positioned between washers 7, 8 secured to the ratchet-wheel 5 and engaged by pins 15, 16 on the driving-wheel 1. The pawls 9, 10 have noses 11, 12 respectively, for engaging the teeth of the wheel 5 and are controlled by the friction of the washers 7, 8, to move into engagement in the one direction of rotation of wheel 1, as shown by the arrow 2, and to move out of engagement in the other direction. The pawls are staggered half a pitch of the ratchet teeth to reduce idle motion. More than two pawls or a single pawl only could be used. |
