794,894. Forced-flow steam boilers. THOMPSON WATER TUBE BOILERS. Ltd., J. May 17, 1954 [April 12, 1954], No. 10769/54. Divided out of 794,893. Class 123(2) A forced-flow boiler has a cylindrical outer casing 1 the top of which has a recessed portion 3a housing an external combustion chamber 4. Gases from the chamber pass down through a cooling space 5 constituted by a coil 6 of steam generating tubes and rise in an annular space between the coil and the casing to discharge through an outlet 9. The annular space and the gas turning space under the coil 6 locate a series of coiled steam generating tubes 8. Combustion chamber 4 is fitted with liquid or gaseous fuel burners of a type' which ensures that substantially complete combustion occurs within the chamber, the stream of gases flowing through the coil 6 being substanially non-luminous. In this way the generating tubes are not exposed to luminous radiation and possible overheating, a more even distribution of heat through the boiler is obtained. Specification 492,709 is referred to.
|
