A lighting system 1 for providing ambient lighting to a room has an elongate body with a flat inner surface 2 for attachment to another surface, a shelf 4 and an outer surface 3 that includes a lip 9 which extends beyond the shelf 4. A strip of LED lights 11 extends along the shelf 4 behind the lip 9 and shines outwards. The fact that the lights 11 are behind the lip 9 allows light to flood outwards without the 'point' light source of the LEDs being directly visible, and the flat rear wall 2 allows the lighting system to be easily connected to another suitable flat surface. |
