PURPOSE: A switching method for the operating system (OS) booting of an automotive multimedia system is provided to increase customer satisfaction for the multimedia system by performing switching operation implementing OS booting with a booting program installed at another memory when OS booting is not implemented properly. CONSTITUTION: Main OS booting is started after a vehicle is started, and the time of the main OS booting is counted. If the main OS booting is not completed within pre-set time according to the counting information, the main OS booting is determined to have an error, and the route is changed to sub-OS booting. If the sub-OS booting is not completed within pre-set time on the changed route, the sub-OS booting is performed again through another route. If the sub-OS booting is completed within the pre-set time, the main OS booting is restored through the sub-OS booting, and multimedia contents are played.
