PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reduction in expansion work while satisfying a requested EGR amount in an internal EGR mechanism.SOLUTION: The control device of an internal combustion engine includes: a mechanism for recirculating exhaust gas to an intake path of the internal combustion engine between an expansion stroke and an exhaust stroke in each cylinder of the internal combustion engine by temporarily opening an intake valve; a means capable of changing the opening and closing timing of the intake valve; and a means capable of changing the opening and closing timing of an exhaust valve. The control device further includes: an intake valve opening timing setting means and an exhaust valve opening timing setting mans. The intake valve opening timing setting means sets the opening timing of the intake valve to an exhaust bottom dead point in an operating state with recirculation of exhaust gas. The exhaust valve opening timing setting means sets, in the operating state with recirculation of exhaust gas, the opening timing of the exhaust valve to a timing later than the opening timing of the exhaust valve in an operating state without recirculation of exhaust gas. |
