PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal square can of 2-6 L in capacity that can have a compressive strength of sufficient resistance to compression even when made thin, save resources and reduce material costs because of thickness reduction, improve durability and liquid leakage resistance, and use an existing automated line of can manufacturing steps with a simple constitution substantially without alteration of the existing line.SOLUTION: There is provided a square can which is vertically long and substantially rectangular in plane view, and made of a tin plate or tin-free steel. A top plate 2 having a spout hole 21 and a bottom plate 3 are fixed by caulking to a can body part 1 formed by shaping a plate material in a square tube shape and welding both edges by seam welding 1c. A can capacity is 2-6 L, the can body part 1 has a thickness of 0.17-0.24 mm, and the top plate 2 and bottom plate 3 each have a thickness of 0.26-0.28 mm. Wide side faces 1a, 1a on both sides of the can body part 1 have recessed parts 11 at their center parts to the overall height-directional length, a right-left width w1 of each recessed part 11 being 50-85% of a can right-left width w2 and a height difference d between the recessed part 11 and an unrecessed part 13 being 0.3-1.0 mm. |
