PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep wheels in a stopped state without requiring a friction braking device and consuming electric power in a braking device for a vehicle, which stops the rotation of the wheel by a motor.SOLUTION: The braking device is provided with a motor (permanent magnet synchronous motor IPM) including a rotor and a stator which rotationally drives the rotor. The rotor is coupled to a wheel (wheel W) to be integrally rotated. The device includes: an engaging member EM which is mounted in a housing so as to be freely engageable with/disengageable from the rotor or a member (W) which integrally rotates with the rotor and allows or prevents the rotation of the rotor; and an engagement control means EC for allowing or preventing the rotation of the wheel by driving and controlling the engaging member. The engaging member is driven according to a vehicle stop operation by a driver of a vehicle to keep the wheels in a stopped state. |
